Some might remember my June challenge, “Picture Perfect”. I challenged myself to ditch filters, editing and ‘hiding’ less palatable parts of myself, and presenting only that picture perfect social media facade.

At last weekends show, one of the audience members took a photo of me mid routine, and the vibe can only be described as a sort of “Les Dawson does Burlesque” πŸ˜‚ Instead of deleting it, feeling disgust or shame as I may have in the past- this time my instinct went to “this is hysterical, I love it. Naturally, this must be my internet dating profile picture!!” πŸ˜‚

This is progress times a thousand, and then some. I had made the above profile for giggles- and planned to leave it up for a day, but the reception has been ridiculously fun. I’m not really dating at the moment as I have very little time or inclination, but if I’m going to have a profile up then it might as well be this, because to be honest, looking at it it reflects me pretty accurately πŸ˜‚ There’s something to he said for authenticity and self-acceptance.

Definitely another area I have benefited in through this project, and am so grateful to say I feel much more relaxed, authentic and free as a result πŸ’–
